Company Profile

Geophysical research is at the brink of a rejuvenation. Novel measurement technologies and computing systems are not only changing the toolbox of the geophysical fieldworker, but also the working environment of the people processing and interpreting the data. Medusa Sensing is committed to power this rejuvenation by providing geophysicists around the world with the most efficient, lightweight and robust gamma-ray survey systems imaginable, through innovative sensor design and smart data analysis models.

Medusa leads the way

We create gamma-ray survey systems for geophysical applications subsea, on land and in the air. Medusa leads the way in the application of new detector materials and novel data analysis methods to make detectors smaller, more robust and user friendly. It is our aim to establish an intense and long-lasting customer involvement in the design and development of our tools. Medusa’s mission is to partner with its customers in every aspect of its activities.

Medusa is at the frontline of the development of state of the art gammaspectrometer solutions.

All products and software are available as OEM to integrate in your own sytems.

Our Experts

Ronald Koomans

Ronald Koomans

Besides my tasks as managing director, I also enjoy working in my field of expertise. As a geologist it is my challenge to make sensor technology applicable for soil surveys, environment and ground, road and waterconstruction. To facilitate this, I advise and work with a highly motivated team on these projects, in which we try, with lots of enthusiasm, to map the soil in the most efficient way possible.

Together with Ronald, I founded Medusa in the year 2000. Of the two of us, Ronald is mainly the one who knows why something is measured, while my expertise focuses more on the instrumentation, in other words how something is measured. At the moment I am involved as an advisor at Medusa and I am helping with the development of geophysical measurement techniques and software.

Steven van der Veeke

At Medusa Radiometrics I am responsible for the Research and Development of the next generation of gamma-ray spectrometers. This is achieved through my dual position as a PhD student at the University of Groningen and my engineering position at Medusa. I help our clients with bringing our spectrometer technology into practice and getting the most out of their data. I am driven by the combination of technology and research that is used to solve modern-day problems in the field of precision farming, environmental pollution mapping and legacy mining sites.

Marco Tijs

As an R&D engineer, I am part of the Medusa team that works on the development of novel applications of the measurement of (natural) gamma radiation. With my background in applied physics, along with a passion for both software and hardware, I find myself challenged every day to achieve the best for our clients. With my long experience at Medusa, I am often the first person to provide support where this is needed.

My role at Medusa is very broad and offers lots of challenges. With my degree in business administration I can apply a lot of my knowledge and organizational skills to my role of Office Manager. In this role I am working on organizing the business processes more efficiently and effectively and I am helping Han and Ronald with their management tasks. I am also busy with the marketing and sales of Medusa, where my Masters degree in Marketing Management comes in handy. The international aspect of Medusa appeals to me very much and I find the market in which we operate very interesting. Besides that I work with a very nice team, with highly motivated colleagues, which makes that I feel very much at home here.

The process of gathering high quality data starts at my measurements in the field. I find it very fascinating that I often perform extraordinary activities at extraordinary places. At times you have to be creative, but that is what makes it interesting. In my spare time I like to be practical, preferably outside: chopping wood, sailing, constructing, all elements which I regularly encounter during field work.

As a part-time software developer, my task at Medusa currently is to develop internal tools to help as the company is growing. I initially started at Medusa as part of a team of interns from the University of Groningen that was tasked to create an ERP system, which I am still working on. I am currently in my third and final year of the Computing Science BSc.

My areas of expertise are geology and soil science, which I both use when interpreting the data that has been collected with our gamma ray spectrometers. I also use the knowledge of my colleagues. This principle is also used by them, which leads to answering the questions of our customers as a small but multidisciplinary team in a nice, decisive and knowledgeable way.

In addition to mapping soil structure and composition using geophysical methods, I also regularly work on projects in the field of coastal morphology and sediment dynamics of coastal systems. Regional geology is my specialty. This also allows me to integrate my hobby with the work. Another nice aspect at Medusa for me is the versatility of work

Silke Ceulemans

As an environmentalist, I find it very important to sketch a complete overview of the soil and that is what Medusa is all about. At Medusa I get the chance to work on lots of various projects, which makes my work very challenging. Besides the execution of projects, I am involved in how we can continuously improve the visualization of our surveys.

Machiel Huizenga

Flying is my dream, but with a lack of opportunities in avation, I started to focus on the soil. At Medusa I am responsible for the analysis of the data of several measuring systems. The data that comes from this analysis I translate into clear maps and describe this in the report. The short lines of communication and the extensive knowledge of various disciplines appeal to me in this company.
